Comparison between U.S. and Denmark rings true

Letters to the Editor

Sept. 21, 2011 — Hi at Remapping Debate. Thank you so much for your elaborate article on Denmark and the Danes. As a Dane living in the U.S. for a couple of years it was especially interesting because so many of the differences you describe have also struck me during my time here. I think that one of the other underlying reasons as to why the Danes are so trusting and alike is the immense difference in physical size between our countries and our populations — I can feel it when I drive through your immense landscapes and although I never feel far from civilization it’s still some pretty wild nature you have to show off. We have none of that left in Denmark because we have simply used up the space for living and farming up through time. And also I think that it’s a lot easier to feel a duty towards your community when it’s the size of the suburbs of New York.

Again thanks for the article and I hope that maybe it can inspire some people here to change things for the better. I will try and take all the good things about America home and see how we can put that to good use.
